I think there are different ways to improve and facilitate a sound sleep at night, and considering personal preference and experience, I would say your sleep quality initiates from the moment you step out of your bed and how you spend the rest of the day.
If you ask me what my cheat code is for quality sleep? I would definitely say eat the biggest and ugliest frog in the room. Here, I am talking about getting the biggest and hardest job of the day done. The contentment and the sense of intense relief after finishing that work help me get a better quality of sleep in comparison to days of delay and procrastination.
I believe a peaceful and meaningful day also counts, but it doesn’t mean no disruption, conflict, or being devoid of negative emotions and thoughts. It’s how you face it, and personally, I take time to introspect my feelings, emotional needs, and what the situation is calling for before bluntly giving a reaction. I take time to process, breathe, and figure myself out, especially when I am facing a conflicting circumstance or having negative thoughts. That time period means a lot to me in handling the situation mindfully, and it is significantly equivalent to my sleep quality.
After having a tedious day, taking time for self-care and nourishment is essential to release all the stress and fatigue of workload, and moreover, a gateway to a safe and secure boundary to relax. Journaling before going to bed helps in resolving conflicting thoughts, minimising them, and gaining control over the repetitive and negative thoughts. This keeps me centred and gives me a strong sense of catharsis as long as I keep it real and raw.
So these are the major significant things that improve my sleep health apart from having a comforting and conducive environment to induce sleep before going to bed.
Knowing the fact that sleep health is multidimensional, and importantly, sleep health is the cause and effect of poor physical and mental health. For instance, physical illnesses and mental conditions like depression and anxiety drag down sleep quality, and insufficient sleep leads to poor performance and concentration. Therefore, in order to have a sound and healthy sleep cycle, your overall health and wellbeing matter too.

Let’s go for a healthier sleep cycle, with a better physical and mental state, because you are a beautiful creation who needs beauty sleep to glow and prosper.
